Biography

I have always wondered if my life is worth living.

I was born in 90’s, a turning point of earlier generation and the younger one. Before this, my definition of ‘art’ was something nice in life. Until I’ve participated the intensive program in Dasien Academy of Art, I find myself fall in love with the nature of art.

Earlier days, my artwork were more on depicting the concrete and exist objects around me. I applied my basic skills like the arrangement of colours, hot and cold series. Capturing the object and scenery has became my first stage of creation. From the pictures, I do coordinate and combine different elements into my artwork. Therefore, my earlier days artwork were more on rational thinking and planning, with use of watercolour and oil painting.

There are many things in life could inspire me. Yes, people around me curious that why I chose ‘fine art’, instead of any other designing field. For me, art is a way to discover and observe myself. I found my personality while creating artwork. In another way, art is a media to share, to show my opinion, who am I, what kind of relationship between me and the nature, human, and object. Moreover, it could be a kind of language, to communicate with the society, to communicate with myself.

Art is always something beyond the limit. Later on, I started to relate my feeling and life into my artwork. I love printmaking and abstract, it is a way for me to develop and extend my idea. The dots, lines and plane became my concept of the monoprint style.

And now, I am proud to tell people that, my life is worth living with art. "Beyond the boundaries", I told myself.

Comfortable brown wooden tables and chairs, wide and huge blackboard, and pieces of colorful chalks, it was still clear in my mind, the first day of my primary school life. As every kid did, I don't even dare to go in to the classroom, but after six years time I were not willing to leave this little heaven. Different taste I had in this place, I learnt, I hurt, I played.
The bittersweet memories.

A funny way of viewing it is from #3 to #1.
#3 represented the feeling of nervous, creepy and alert that every 7-year-old kid would have.
Slowly, when you got to know more friends, the comfortable, adapted feelings brought the scene of #2
Finally the moment that every pupils would leave, had to leave, forced to leave. Confusing situation that we were excited to go another stage of life, and yet we were to leave this memorable place.
#1 described it all.

Here is a set of drypoint print which came
with the same composition but in different effects.
I was trying to discover different layering and outcome.
A few monoprints has done in different ways.
The theme is an old classroom which I've took in my primary school.
The purpose to use these flowing effect is to emphasize the olden days classroom is going to disappear very soon.
Every time I returned there, things were changing.
It was part of my life that I should retain it.

I always play with the turpentine and soap water while I'm going to clean my plate and working table.
It was fun to see the result if I played marbling and bubbling on my plate of drypoint.
I got surprise in every single print.
This series developed my future series of photography artwork.

My first try on abstract series.
Of course, it is a broad space for me to imagine, to describe and even to mix up the texture.
After depicted the exist objects, I started emphasizing on my own feeling and study on the relationship between those art elements.
The printings above was my first abstract series of monoprint.
I thought of dots, lines and plane, based on shapes, colors, sizes, distances and composition.
All I wish, is to provide the audience a space to imagine.

I had always been attracted by olden days stories, just like how our grandparents generation grown. It was what inspired me when I first visit to one of the olden days design restaurant. From the ceramic tiles on the walls and the electrical switches, every single design brought back the memories of those days when i'm still a kid. Of course, the youngster nowadays might be fancy of trendy coffee shops, modern design of shop lots and look more on latest fashion. Sometimes I do conflict on following new trend, and i'll always think about the value of them. Undeniable, those olden years' traces are memorable and nice to see.

A Corner In Melacca

A Corner In Melacca

Watercolor on Syamal watercolor paper
59.4cm X 42.7cm

A strong feeling hunted me down when I saw the scene above, unintentionally.

It was a corner I found in Malacca.
The windy day, the relaxing atmosphere,
I sat down and had my cup of hot local coffee,
life is not that bad after all.

The main focus of the artwork is the way to present warm and cold color in harmony to create a balanced image. The visual effect brought a feeling of harmonical environment.
A special way of viewing the scene from down, you felt it, the hopeful life.

It is the artwork which has awarded
1st Prize of watercolor category in Tanjong Heritage Art Competition 2013
